Healthy boundaries lead to empowerment and the ability to stand up for your rights, safeguard your self-esteem, maintain self-respect, and enjoy healthy relationships. Unhealthy boundaries cause emotional pain that can lead to dependency, depression, anxiety, and physical illness.

Personal boundaries are borders that define where you end and others begin. Your personal boundary is defined by the amount of physical space you allow between yourself and others. Personal boundaries help you decide what types of communication, behavior and interaction you accept from others. How you allow others to talk with you or what you stop them from saying is important.

Physical boundaries need to be strong in order to protect you from harm and include your body, your sense of personal space, shelter, security, money, space, safety, and privacy.  Don’t allow people in closer than what makes you feel comfortable.

Emotional boundaries protect your sense of self-esteem, and your ability to separate your feelings from the feelings of others. Don’t allow others to hurt your heart. Setting boundaries are essential to being physically and emotionally healthy.
